Hacienda

La Laguna

Hacienda La Laguna lies to the east of San José in the Central Highlands of Costa Rica at an altitude of 1250 to 1300 metres above sea level.

One of the oldest plantations in the country it was founded in 1849 on 56ha of land with 2000 plants and has grown to 130ha today.

Varieties cultivated are Catuai (80%) and Caturra (20%).

While the current owners (the Teran Alvarado Family) only acquired the Hacienda in 1933 the history of exports can be traced back to 1856 when the company of Joy & Von Schröter shipped 1992 bags of coffee to Fruhling Brothers of London.
